What My Husband Taught Me About Love

Good evening, dear readers!

Despite its many delays due to both my health and my many technological mishaps (my number pad and function keys on the keyboard aren't working...again. My hubby swears he didn't do anything to bugger them when he worked on it earlier...), the 21 day blogging challenge is nearing its end! Day 17's prompt is a rather personal one, but also appropriate in light of the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday.

Before I met my husband, I was a sheltered and isolated young woman. I had been forcefully denied the privileges of dating and navigating my way around the pitfalls that come with it lest I be distracted from my rigidly enforced educational goals. In spite of this suppression, I did experience crushes on fellow students, though I knew they were in vain. As someone who was naturally emotional, it was hard to suffer these feelings in secret because my environment was not conducive to such an expression. I had to force myself to become asexual, lest I run afoul of my family's rules.

His birthday, before we were married. 2012

Meeting my husband was in many ways a godsend. Here was a man who in spite of his substantial baggage, was more of a parent to me than my biological progenitors! He gave me the space I needed to mature emotionally and establish confidence in myself by helping guide me through the more difficult moments of life. I had not intended to fall in love with him, but the more time I spent with him learning about computers and playing with his cats, the more attached I became to him.

It was the cats who really helped me come out of my shell. Before I met my husband, I was terrified of animals and the germs they carried. After I met him, he would invite me over to his tent in the hoarded private junkyard he called home to play with the kittens his mommy cats were always having since they were still young and impressionable. He would teach me about the different breeds, how to pet the kittens, how to hold, feed and play with them. From the kittens, I would gradually work my way up to the adult cats. Most of them never cared for me, with the exception of two of the mommy cats. But playing with the cats was my first lesson on the unconditional love that animals give their humans, and the emotional cues I learned from the cats would eventually spread towards their human caretaker and he returned the feeling. At last, I was free from the oppression I had been subjected to and could acknowledge that love was a healthy emotion conducive to living a healthy life.

At our church wedding in 2013, we had selected St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians as our second reading (note: "charity" has also been rendered into the more familiar "love" that we know lines 4-7 to be). I wanted this particular reading because it illustrated that true love comes from God. It we do not love God, then we cannot love each other because it is only from God that love and the life that stems from it comes. This lesson was continually reinforced by my husband living his Catholic faith all the time because that life gave him the graces he needed to love me as his wife and his animals as God's creatures. This love also helped our marriage stay together in the face of some pretty stiff odds. It will also solidify the foundation on which we will raise our children.

My Cat, Pest

Tonight while eating dinner, I caught my cat, Pest, doing this:

"Eater of Grass"

Actually, he was licking the salad dressing off of the lettuce.

While he forgets he's a cat about 90% of the time and is frequently annoying as all hell (hence his name, Pest), he'll still be my baby forever. Hubby and I raised him and his siblings by hand after their mommy died, and Pest is one of the few in that unfortunate litter that made it to adulthood. He's my survivor, and the one I practiced my mommy skills on in preparation for parenthood.

I love you, Pest. Even if you are a K-A-T-T, not a C-A-T.

valentines day

dear readers,

since its valentines day, i thought id do an entry just for this auspicious occasion.

perhaps you're wondering what my plans are for today. perhaps there are some of you who wonder if i even have somebody special to celebrate valentines day with. well, i spent the day at a tucson park observing the landscape and wildlife cuz my sadistic bio lab teacher threw a shitload of assignments at us for the weekend-one of which is a semester project. the 1st phase of the project is to scout out sites in tucson and take observations. i have to visit 3 sites, and i went to 1 today. i'll check out the other 2 tomorrow. after the park, i went to the mall. it was the most dead mall id ever seen. only like 4 stores were open. everything else was barracaded and empty. really quite sad to see.

now for the million-dollar question: do i have anyone to celebrate valentines day with? the answer is... NO!! 'why?' may you ask. well, part of it has to do with my upbringing, part of it is my choice (or fault), and part of it has to do with the availability of guys at my school. besides, i dont consider myself to be bitter about it. i just put up with it, like everything else.

besides, i, in my cynical view, have come to look at valentines day as just another shopping holiday. this time of year, the stores overflow with flowers, chocolates and other heart-themed candies, cards, and tons of cheesy teddy bears with 'i love you' hearts (did you know that the valentine heart we all know is actually the inverted shape of a woman's ass? i only found this out yesterday!!). come on now! valentines day is all about being with your sweetie (or with something you love alot-me, i love my computer more then any human ever should-wait, no, my brother can beat me on that one). like mothers day, christmas, and easter, its all been commercialized. oh well. i'm probably more inclined to support the business aspect of things cuz moneys what makes the economy grow-and we all know a growing economy means more money in our pockets!!

that being said, have a happy valentines day!!

all about me

dear readers,

i just finished my 3rd test in 3 days. i'm exhausted, so thats why i havent written for a few days. i suppose you'll want to know more about me. well, first of all, i'm conservative.

as a conservative, i believe that our government is too big and greedy, AND i don't believe in global warming either. my outright denial of global warming gained me alot of notoriety on myspace, and if i feel like it, i'll post some of my most controversial myspace entries on global warming.

as a conservative, i also am strongly pro-life. as an orthodox christian, i believe that life begins at conception and ends at death. this may seem strange, given my age and social demographic (young, white, from a semi-middle class background, college-educated), but im different and proud of it.

maybe you're wondering what i aim to do with my life. aside from pissing off the democrats and liberals, i aim to become a pharmacist. i'm already a pharmacy technician and i want to go the next step up. its a lucrative sleeper career. not too many people know about pharmacy's hidden benefits.

my favorite sports are football and baseball. my favorite football team is the chicago bears, but i have favorite players on other teams as well.
my favorite baseball team is the chicago white sox. not only are they good, but i love the players on the team itself. my favorite sox players are carlos quentin, aj pierzynski, mark burhle, i used to like little nicky swisher too but he's no longer with the team, and alexei ramirez. i know its obvious that i really have a thing for chicago sports, but because chicago is my home city, i'm partial to my city's sports teams.
yeah, i really love carlos quentin :). he's hot and really really good at baseball. only too bad he's married and i'm such an uptight person cuz i would bang him in a heartbeat :D. dont worry, its merely wishful thinking-im not a homewrecker hooker groupie.
thats all for now. if i think of other things, i'll post them here
bye!
